About Our Funeral Home and Our Commitment to You
Marion Nelson Funeral Home has been a cornerstone of compassionate care in Polk County, Florida since its founding in 1951. The business began as a family endeavor when Jack Stephenson married Ruth Nelson and partnered with her son, Marion H. Nelson, to establish the funeral home. This marked the beginning of a legacy that has now spanned five generations.
Marion and his wife Helen Nelson were deeply involved in the operations and community outreach of the funeral home until Marion’s passing in 1991. Helen continued her dedicated service until her death in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of empathy and professionalism.
Today, the tradition continues under the leadership of their favorite son, Barrett Nelson. The funeral home remains family-owned and operated, staying true to its founding values of dignity, respect, and personalized service.

Throughout its history, Marion Nelson Funeral Home has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, offering a full range of funeral and cremation services. The team is committed to guiding families through life’s most difficult moments with compassion and professionalism. Their dedication to personalized memorials and pre-planning services reflects a deep understanding of the importance of honoring each individual’s legacy.
As an active member of the local community, Marion Nelson Funeral Home takes pride in serving families across Lake Wales, Frostproof, and surrounding areas, continuing to earn the trust of generations.
