William Daniel Spires, 81

Dan Spires of Lakeland and formerly of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at his residence.

He was born February 3, 1942 in Hawkinsville, Georgia to the late Robert and Bessie Spires; he has been a lifelong resident of the area. Dan was a retired groundskeeper for Mountain Lake and was a Christian. He was a loyal, honest, and hardworking person. He would help anyone in need and had a huge heart. Dan was a strong family man.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Spires; sons, Danny Boy, and Mickey Harrison; and grandson, Michael Justin. He is survived by his wife, Van Eva Spires; daughter, Jackie Dryden of Jacksonville, Alabama; sons, Royce Harrison of Auburndale; Emmette Harrison of Branson, Missouri, Robert William Spires of Lakeland, and Clayton Spires of Cairo, Georgia; sisters, Margaret Benning of Arkansas and Margie Ferrell of Ohio; brothers, Paul Spires of West Virginia, Ronnie Spires of Sebring, and Bobby Joe Spires of Sebring; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2023 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. David Durham officiating. Interment will follow at Whidden Cemetery.
