William “Pete” Dowdy, of Polk County, was born on January 20, 1950, and passed away at his residence in Plant City on October 28, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Pete was a hard-working man who was known as a man of few words. He worked as a yard dock manager for Bay Port Valves in Mulberry, where he built a life through steady work and dedication.
Outside of work, Pete enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness. He loved woodworking, antique cars, working in the yard, and fishing. He also loved his dogs. Above all, he loved his family, and they remained at the heart of his life.
He is survived by his sons, Allen Dowdy of Plant City and Tim Dowdy and his wife Kim of Plant City. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Dowdy, and Michael’s wife, Kathy, of Ocala. He was Pawpaw to 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Those who knew Pete will remember the quiet strength he carried and the love he had for the people closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Dowdy; his father, Samuel Dowdy; his mother, Sadie Dowdy; his brothers, Wayne Dowdy, Tommy Dowdy, Douglas Dowdy, and Barney Dowdy; and his sisters, O’Dell and Hilda, his daughter-n-law Margaret Dowdy (Allen’s wife)
A private family gathering will be held.
