LAKE WALES -- Mr. William E. "Bill" King of Lake Wales died of leukemia Sunday (Feb. 26, 2006) at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 82.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on Nov. 2, 1923, he came to Lake Wales from East Lansing, Mich., in 1991. He was a retired financial institution examiner for the state of Michigan. He was a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps in World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. He was active in the Polk County Senior Games. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales.

Mr. King is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maryann King; daughter, Amy E. King, Oklahoma City, Okla.; son, Peter C. King, Alameda, Calif.; brothers, David A. King, Bakersfield, Calif., Fred B. King, Jackson, Mich.; sisters, Julia Anne Taylor, Bat Cave, S.C., Nancy Hartsuff, Jackson, Mich.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Lake Wales. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Burial will follow in the Cloister Garden at the church.
