William Robert Cooley, 85, of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at his daughter's residence in Winter Haven.

Born February 7, 1923 in Oberlin, OH; he came here 20 years ago from Vermillion, OH. He was a retired tool maker for General Motors, a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lake Wales, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and volunteered at the Lake Wales Hospital with over 3,000 hours. He also enjoyed photography, coin collecting and growing orchids and casuses.

Survivors include his daughters, Kristine Ward of Amberst, OH and Barbara Sterling of Amberst, OH; son, William D. Cooley of Mitchell, VA; sister, Dorothy and James McAfee of Elyria, OH and Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Sharon Lynn Smulin of Winter Haven, FL, Jennifer, Brooke, Denise, Danny, Amy and Scott.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, June 16, 2008 at First Assembly of God, Lake Wales. Interment will be follow at 2:30 PM, Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
