Willard A. Sims of Lake Wales passed away Monday, October 19, 2009 at his residence.
He was born November 4, 1913 in Bonifay Holmes County, FL to the late James Edward Sims, Sr. & Laura Leavins; he came here in 1950 from Bonifay Holmes County. He served as a deacon at Westside Baptist Church for many years and a promoter for convention style gospel music. He was a member of the Railroad Tampa Bay Lodge #6021 and the First Baptist Church in Lake Wales. He was a true man of God and family.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mavis Christine Moore in 2002, a brother, James Quinton Sims, and two sisters, Cumi McNeill and Beatrice McWilliams. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Mary P. Sims; daughters, Barbara Sims Henderson & Charlie J. Henderson of Winter Haven and Mary Ellen Sims Scott & Ronald L. Scott Sr. of Lake Wales; brother, James Edward Sims Jr. of Bonifay; five grandchildren, Laura Lee Martin, Robbie Kincaid, Allen Henderson, Brent Kytle and Melodie Kincaid; four step-grandchildren, Ronald L. Scott, Jr., Michael Scott, Ron Henderson and Regina Brossart; eight great-grandchildren, Sgt. First Class Jason Lamb, Tosha Lamb, Dustin Kincaid, Chasity Kincaid, Jeremy Haynie, Catie Kincaid, Christopher Henderson and Corbin Kincaid.
Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until service time at 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Markley, Rev. Ronnie Henderson & Chaplain Ken Geren officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
