Wilburn Chasten "W.C." Cheatwood

Wilburn Chasten "W.C." Cheatwood of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 surrounded by love at the Sun City Center Hospice House in Ruskin.

He was born May 20, 1927 in Oxford, AL to the late Asa & Carrie (Smelley) Cheatwood; he came here in 1966 from Anniston, AL. He was a retired truck driver for Fabarc Steel in Oxford, AL, a former member of the Golfview Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge #242 in Lake Wales.

Wilburn was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Cheatwood and brother, William Cheatwood. Survivors include his daughters, Paula Ward of Lake Wales, Deborah Everett of Lake Wales, Linda Ballard of Chancellor, AL, Darlene Suggs (Robert) of Plant City, Freda Horn (Ricky) of Plant City and Vera Hietanen of Knoxville, TN; son, Lee Cheatwood of Ohatchee, AL; brother, O'Neal Cheatwood (Mary Francis) of Lincoln, AL; sister, Inez Cheatwood of Oxford, AL; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a cancer charity of your choice.
