Walter Joe Monk

Walter Joe Monk, 78 of Frostproof, FL passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Advent Health Lake Wales.

He was born January 4, 1943 in Frostproof, to the late Walter C and Melba Jo Monk. Walter was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam. He served 22 years in the military before retiring as a Master Sergeant. After his retirement from the military he became an assistant ranch manager. Walter also was a retired sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections. After he retired from the State of Florida he continued to be a Criminal Justice Instructor at the South Florida State College. He was a member of the Avon Park Church of Christ.

Walter was preceded in death by his daughter, Loretta Marie Monk in 1964. He is survived by his wife, Joyce F. Wichman Kolar Monk; daughter, Chilo A. Monk of Frostproof; son, Erick W. Monk of Frostproof; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild which he treated as his own.

Walter was a very loved and respected man. He truly was one of  kid. Everyone either knew him as Walt, Monk, Shorty, or Pappy. He was a loving, caring, respectful, loyal, and honest man to his family, Christ, and friends. He treated everyone that came into his life the same as if they were family to him. Everyone was equal in his eyes. Walter loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved his church family, enjoyed reading, learning history, and riding his bike.
