Walter Lewis Harrell, 89
Walter L. Harrell M-SGT USAF Retired of Lake Wales, Florida passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his residence. He was born December 28, 1928 in Lake Wales, Florida to the late Joseph H. and Inez (Harrison) Harrell. He has been a resident of the area since 1998 coming from Richmond Hill, Georgia. A Veteran of WWII and Korea serving in the in the United States Army Air Corps and later the United States Air Force. Walter was in active military service from 1945-1969, and Retired Military reserves 1969-1975. Following his military retirement, he worked as a Millwright for L.B. Foster and Rexnord in Savannah, Georgia. A member of Air Force Association, Masonic Lodge #263 Jacksonville, AR, a former member of Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Savannah, GA and the Alee Temple Shrine in Savannah, GA.
He is preceded in death by his brother Joe Harrell Jr.
Surviving are his wife Gwen Harrell, daughters Jan Walker and son in law Richard of Richmond Hill, GA, Molly Harrell of Winter Haven, FL, Lisa Harrell of Richmond Hill, GA, sisters Joan Jones of Lake Wales, FL, Betty McKenzie of Avon Park, FL, Janie Nelson and brother in law Dr. James A. Nelson of Lake Wales, FL, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 1:00PM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Lake Wales with Dr. Scott Markley, Rev. Walter Nelson and Joe Martin Officiating. Burial will take place at the Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund.
