Virginia S. Mccormick

Lake Wales - Virginia S. McCormick, a long time resident of Lake Wales, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014.

Born March 19, 1918 in Munhall, Pa. to Leah (Herman) and Andrew Schmidt, she graduated from Munhall High School in 1936 where she was class secretary-treasurer, a cheerleader, and active in several school clubs and activities. She then attended the Pittsburgh Academy for two years. While working at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, she met Albert E. McCormick of Emsworth, Pa. They married on June 17, 1942. Periodically working as an administrative assistant or real estate agent, Ginny devoted most of her time to raising her sons, first in the Pittsburgh area, then, after the family 's 1961 relocation to Florida, in Sarasota, Winter Park, and, beginning in 1968, Lake Wales. Ginny was active in her church and community. She was the Upper School Secretary at the Vanguard School and was associated for a time with the Lake Wales Medical Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales, Past President of Chapter CD, PEO Sisterhood, and Past President of the Lake Wales Women's Golf Association. An avid bridge player, she was active in several informal bridge clubs.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Lee.

Survived by her husband of 72 years, Albert; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Albert E. McCormick, Jr. and Dr. Michelle J. McCormick of Lake Wales; son and daughter-in-law Michael J. McCormick and Lesley Vemau of Clermont, Florida; and grand-daughter and grand-son-in-law Dr. Mavis McCormick-Rantze and Edward Rantze, and great-granddaughters Amelia Nichole Rantze and Emily Margarete Rantze of Cumming, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lake Wales Library or the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chad Reynolds Officiating. After cremation, interment will be in the courtyard of the First Presbyterian Church.
