Vera Sherrer of Lake Wales died June 6. 2021 after a three plus year battle with cancer. She was born in Coffee County, Alabama on September 27, 1940. Vera moved as a child to Polk County in 1946 and came to live in Lake Wales in 1952. She was a 1958 graduate of Lake Wales High School and worked for Lake Wales Citrus Growers and served as secretary treasurer of First Federal of Lake Wales before her retirement in 1996. She loved travel to the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina where she summered for 14 years, many shared good times with family and friends and her three cats, Lucky, Fortune, Suzie. She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church now New Hope Baptist Church and was active in church activities up until the week she passed.
She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Lucille Sherrer, and her sister, Velma Sherrer Mates. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Earline and Michael McDonald, of Babson Park, five loving nieces, Lisa Goodwin of St. Petersburg, Nancy Barber of Tampa, Carol DeSaulniers of New Orleans, Martha McDonald and Catherine McDonald of Babson Park, 3 great-nephews, Ryan and Joshua Barber of Tampa, Jared Wolff, currently on active duty with the USMC and 2 great-nieces, Julia Wolff of Canton, Ga, and Olivia Barber of Tampa as well as many extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lake Wales Care Center or New Hope Baptist Church. Viewing to be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 Saturday, June 12, 2021 a the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, and the funeral service will at 2:00, Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.
