Vera Ruth Hollis, born December 3, 1949, in Frostproof, Florida, passed away on April 14, 2026, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who touched the lives of those around her with her warmth and kindness.
For 24 years, Vera worked as a fruit picker for Ben Hill Griffin, Inc., dedicating much of her life to her work with care and commitment. A member of the Frostproof Church of God, she was an active part of her community and found joy in simple pleasures. Vera loved to cook, go to yard sales, attend auctions, and read, enjoying the little things that made life meaningful.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William E. "PeeWee" Hollis; her daughter Tammy Houser and fiancé Jeff Elmore of Jefferson City, Tennessee; her son William Hollis, Jr. and his wife Wanda of Frostproof; her sister Arlene Goodwin of Atwood, Tennessee; her brother Robert Gurney of Lake Wales; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Vera Peacock.
A burial service will be held on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof with Pastor Sam Haag officiating. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.
