LAKE WALES -- Mr. Tommy Hickman of Lake Wales died of complications of cancer Monday (Aug. 7, 2006) at Lake Wales Medical Center. He was 73.
Born in Babson Park on Aug. 30, 1932, he was a longtime resident of the area. He was a retired petty officer first class in the Navy and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a building inspector for the city of Lake Wales. He worked in the purchasing department at Lake Wales Hospital and for the U.S. Postal Service in Winter Haven. He was a grove inspector for Polk County and later sold life insurance for Independent Life Insurance Co. He was a member of the Lake Wales Masonic Lodge, NRA, VFW and the USS Bordelon Association. He received his bachelor's degree in business from St. Leo University. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Hickman. He is survived by his son, Michael Gregory, Fort Bragg, N.C.; brothers, Ray Hickman, Cocoa, Douglas "Bibb" Hickman, Lake Wales; two grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at West Side Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lake Wales Cemetery.
