Thomas Eugene Cates, 86

Thomas Eugene Cates of Lake Wales passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 16, 1934 in Augusta, MI to the late Auvie and Eleanor Cates.  He came to Florida from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 9 years ago.  Thomas was a retired engineer from Allegheny Ludlum (ATI).   He enjoyed boating and fishing, spending time by the lake, and operating and redesigning his fish camp with his family.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Stanko Cates; parents, Auvie and Eleanor Cates; brothers, Jack Cates and Richard Cates; nephew, Franklin Cates; and son-in-law, Wade Megown. He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Megown, Christine Davis (William), and Denise Kasanicky (John); sons, Thomas Cates (Julia), and Robert Cates; grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, Alexander, Serena, Joshua, Jonathan, Connor, Thomas, and Arianna; and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Raymond, Pearl, Cade, Parker, and Lucas.
