With heavy hearts and profound pride, we announce the passing of Terry Bruce Miller, who stepped peacefully into eternity on April 6, 2026. Surrounded by the deep love of his children, Bruce’s final moments were a reflection of the life he lived, anchored by family, and defined by a quiet, steady strength.
A Life of Service and Resolve
Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, Bruce carried the spirit of his roots with him when he moved to Florida in his twenties. He lived a life of dedication, serving his community as a police officer for both the Lake Wales and Frostproof departments. Simultaneously, he built a career as a telephone lineman, first with GTE and later retiring from Verizon after 30 years of steadfast service. Whether patrolling the streets or ensuring a community stayed connected, Bruce was the embodiment of a hardworking man who never shied away from his responsibilities.
A Man of Many Passions
Bruce was a man of vast interests and even larger stories. To know him was to have a seat at his campfire, a plate of his famous BBQ, or a front-row ticket to a karaoke performance. He was just as comfortable leading a youth group at church as he was on the back of a motorcycle, riding with Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) to protect those who could not protect themselves.
His legacy is etched into the local ballfields, where he spent decades as both a player and a coach, and in the quiet ripples of the water where he spent his happiest hours fishing.
His Final Fight
The final chapter of Bruce’s life was marked by a courageous battle with cancer. His family watched with immense pride as he met every challenge with an unwavering resolve and a spirit that refused to be dimmed. He taught those around him that while we cannot always control the hand we are dealt, we can control the grace and humor with which we play it.
Legacy and Farewell
Bruce is survived by his devoted children, Melissa, Adam, and Amber; his beloved six grandchildren; and his sisters, Ginger and Denise. He additionally leaves behind a vast extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-arms who shared in his journey.
"He showed a profound kindness to anyone who would take it, and a loyalty to those closest to him that will be forever missed."
Celebration of Life: 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.
Final Journey: A private memorial service for the spreading of his ashes will be held by the family at a later date.
Bruce’s physical journey has concluded, but his stories will continue to be told around every campfire, and his spirit will remain a guiding light for all who loved him.
