Susan Pheylene Caraway, 65
Susan Pheylene Caraway of Old Town passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital.
She was born November 14, 1958 in Lake Wales to the late Samuel and Ruth Howell. Susan was the wife of a Pastor and was a member of the Church of God.
Phey was raised as a country girl on a 25-acre farm of cows and oranges. Her family owned a fish market when she was in elementary school. She was a member of FFA and served as an officer. She was a member of four singing groups, The Victory Travelers, The Happy Christian Family, The Polk County Gospel, and the Sojouners. She always loved the piano and singing. From her early teens, she sang and played until her health would no longer allow. She was always active in church activities and when the love of her life, John, was called to the ministry, she became a faithful minister’s wife and a true help mate to him. Phey dearly loved her family and one of the greatest joys of her life was spending time with them. Her hobby was crocheting. She loved making blankets for her grandchildren and others. Everyone that knew her always called her a kind, sweet, caring lady. She put others before her own needs. In her own sufferings, when she heard of a need, she would cry and pray as she brought them before the Lord. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ruth Howell; brothers, Charles L. Howell, Sr., Larry B. Howell, and Marcus Howell; and sister, Valinda Jacobs. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Caraway; daughter, Heather Rene Pace of Old Town; sons, Jeremy Dewayne Caraway and wife Tera Lynn of Louisville, Kentucky, Joshua Aaron Caraway, Sr. and wife Rachel of Bowling Green, and Joseph Daniel Caraway, Sr. and wife Angela of Lawtey; sisters, Carmalita Caswell of Frostproof and Minerva Alford of Frostproof; brothers, Walter Howell of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Donald Howell and wife Teresa of East Paulding, Ohio; grandchildren, Hannah Smith and husband Jristin, Kyle Caraway, Joey Caraway, Jr. and wife Alexandria, Rebeccah Caraway, Alexis Caraway, Nate Caraway and wife Angelina, Josh Caraway, Jr. and wife Jaycee, Cecil Caraway, Ethan Caraway, Tanner Caraway, Harmony Pace, and Benjamin Pace; and six great-grandchildren.
