Sonya Loretta Ivey, 81

Sonya Loretta Ivey of Frostproof passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022 at her daughters residence.

She was born March 16, 1941 in Banner Elk, North Carolina to the late Kyle and Maxine Banner. Sonya was a restaurant cook and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Frostproof. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, cooking, and playing Mario Brothers. She loved her family and especially loved taking care of her kids and grandkids.

Sonya was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Ivey; brothers, Horton Banner, and Bobby Banner; and sister, Dolores Banner. She is survived by her daughters, Gerri Horton and husband Carl of Frostproof, Sandra Ivey of Frostproof; son, Perrin Ivey and wife Nancy of Frostproof; sisters, Connie Braswell and husband Wayne of Newland, North Carolina, Carolyn Ellis of Foscoe, North Carolina, and Barbara Thornton of Frostproof; 10 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; and 4 great-greatgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Emmanuel Baptist Church (1300 CR 630 West, Frostproof, Florida 33843) with Pastor Larry Dailey officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church. If you do choose to send flowers, please them sent directly to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
