S e t h Elverson Keener, Jr., 87
Seth Elverson Keener, Jr. of Lake Wales, Florida passed away early Sunday, morning December 19, 2021.
Seth was born, 1934 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Seth E. Keener and Helen Keener. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janice (Warfel) Keener; A son, Seth “Chip” Keener of Tampa, and a daughter, Sarah Keener, also of Tampa, Florida. He is preceded in death by a son, Shane Keener and his sister Shirley.
Seth was a child born in the depression era, and he was taught very early the value of a dollar, the sanctity and discipline of hard work, the art of relationship building and the love of the great outdoors! He worked several jobs as a teen and graduated from Harrisburg High School and later graduated from Susquehanna University in 1956.
Seth’s professional career included 35 years with Cigna Insurance Company. His work ethic and negotiating skills earned him several awards and recognitions and this lead to another career within the State Government of Louisiana. Seth served as the Director of Risk Management for Louisiana for many years and dealt successfully with a variety of claims during his tenure representing the State.
While Seth was quite diligent in his work environment, it was his passion for hunting and fishing and his love of living on the water that truly charted his course in life.
He and Janice always lived on the waterfront, whether in South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, or Florida. They frequented the lakes regularly and loved to fish and cruise on the water. Their trips together often included scuba diving and deep sea fishing. Seth also loved to hunt, particularly on the hunting property outside of Natchez, Mississippi.
Seth was a member of the Mason’s and was proud of his connection with their mission and service. He was a dedicated member of the church council of the Abiding Savior Church in Winter Haven, Florida and attended several national conventions representing the congregation.
Seth pursued his professional career and his personal hobbies in much the same fashion. He acquired the knowledge needed to become successful and then proceeded with passion at 110%. He may well have been in a business suit on a Friday evening and in full camo in a deer stand on Saturday! He had a zest for life that he loved sharing with his wife and children as well as his friends and extended family.
He was a man’s man, a God fearing man, a straight talker, and a difference maker. He has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital (shrinerschildrens.org).
Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Winter Haven with Pastor William Hecht officiating. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.
