Selvin "Van" Bostic

Selvin "Van" Bostic, a beloved figure defined by his warm-hearted spirit and unwavering kindness, passed from this life on December 18, 2025, at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born on July 28, 1949, in Christ Church, Barbados, Van embodied the essence of community, never meeting a stranger but rather transforming each encounter into a lasting connection.

His journey brought him to Florida, where he spent years as a dedicated truck driver for Waverly Grower. He enjoyed—fishing along the banks, wandering the outdoors, and spending cherished time with his family.

Van's had a love for animals. His laughter would fill gatherings, weaving tales of outdoor adventures and playful anecdotes about his beloved pets. A true traditionalist at heart, he had a special place for music that resonated in the core of his being—gospel, blues, and jazz rang through his home, providing the soundtrack to many family gatherings, echoing joy and nostalgia in equal measure.

He is survived by his wife Sheila Thomas; daughters, Kisha Thomas and Chiquita Thomas, both of Lake Wales. Each moment spent together was a cherished treasure, punctuated by laughter and warmth. Van was a proud grandfather to Leevi and Taylor. He is also survived by his siblings, Jackie, Ivan, Stalin, Alwyn, and Darville Bostic—all of whom remain in Barbados, holding fast to the memories of their dear brother, who brought light into their lives. Van was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Bostic.
