Sandy McCullough, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this life on July 10, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on January 13, 1944 in Michigian. Sandy's life was beautifully spanned for more than eight decades marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Sandy was the owner and operator of Johns Refrigeration alongside her late husband, John R. McCullough, she poured her strong work ethic into the family business they built together. She was a very loving yet feisty and sassy woman who did not let much slide and never hesitated to stand up for the people she loved. Sandy was a fierce advocate for her family, and anyone closest to her always knew she was always in their corner.
Central to Sandy's heart was her faith. A devoted and active member of HighPoint Church, she found fellowship and community with those who shared her beliefs. Her faith remained an important part of her life, and she often found special meaning behind the butterflies and redbirds that would fly around her or pass by her house. Seeing them was always a reminder of the loved ones who had passed before her.
Sandy loved life's simple pleasures. She always wanted to spend time with her family by going out to restaurants, enjoyed shopping, taking drives simply to get out and look around, and spending time in Daytona with her family while enjoying the scenery. Before Fat Boys closed its doors, it held a particularly special place in her heart. Many family mornings were spent there over breakfast, creating memories that would later become cherished traditions for her grandchildren. It was a place filled with familiar faces, laughter, and years of memories shared alongside her husband and family.
In her later years, Sandy enjoyed a peaceful retirement surrounded by the people and comforts she loved most. She treasured time spent at home with her family, especially her grandchildren and surviving son, watching her favorite television shows and enjoying the home she had created. She also shared a special companionship with her beloved sassy cat Lynx, who was rarely far from her heart and resembled her loving but feisty attitude.
Above aII else, Sandy's family was the center of her world. She was the best mother, nena and nana her family could have ever asked for, and she cherished each of her granddaughters deeply. Her love for her family was fierce, constant, and beyond measure. She is survived by her loving son, John McCullough Jr.; his wife, Jaime McCullough; and her three cherished granddaughters, Jessica, Jennifer, and Emelyn. In Sandy's eyes, her family was her greatest treasure, and the love and life she built around them will continue to live on through the memories they carry.
Sandy was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John R. McCullough; her caring daughter, Kristi Schwanke; and her parents, Jack and Barbara Harper.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2026, at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, with Rev. Mike Willis officiating.
