LAKE WALES--Sylvester Schaefer of Lake Wales died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at his home. He was 87 years old.

Syl was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII, flying many missions in the South Pacific campaign. He moved with his wife and children to Miami, FL in 1953, where he was the comptroller at Wm. Thies and Sons, Miller Beer Distributor. He and his wife retired to a small farm in Lake Wales in 1984 where he engaged in commercial blueberry production.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ann of Lake Wales; son, Nicholas of Lake Wales; daughter, Victoria and husband David of Craig, Colorado; daughter, Judith of Alva, Florida; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Lake Wales. Services will be 11:00am, Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home.
