Ruth Miller, 87
Ruth Miller of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Somers Hospice House in Sebring.
She was born March 8, 1938, in York County, Pennsylvania to the late William and Virgie (Gross) Gerber. She graduated Dover Area High School in 1955 and was voted the FFA sweetheart that year. Ruth worked as a hostess for Welcome Wagon in Dover for 10 years and as a secretary for the Dover Area School District for 20 years, as well as tending to her house. Ruth also served as a church choir director at Salem Union Church for several years and devoted a lot of time to her granddaughters. Following her move to Lake Wales in 1999, she was a 25 year volunteer for the Lake Wales Care Center and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales, where she participated in their choir and other fellowship activities.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son, David M Miller; and brother, James Gerber. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Milo O Miller; daughter, Jearl Ann Dolan of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Phyllis Wolgamuth of Dover, Pennsylvania; brothers, William Gerber, Jr. of Dover, Pennsylvania, Dale Gerber of Manheim, Pennsylvania, John Gerber of Thomasville, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Jan M Shain of York, Pennsylvania, and Leah L Nishwitz of Ocala, Florida; and five great-grandchildren, Khora, Mara, Lydia, Josie, and Eviana.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 in the afternoon. A celebration of life service is scheduled at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales on Monday June 2nd starting at 3:30 in the afternoon. The family would be grateful to have attendees wear blue in honor of her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Lake Wales Care Center (140 E Park Ave, Lake Wales, FL 33853) or to the First Presbyterian Church (16 N 3rd St, Lake Wales, FL 33853).
