Ruth A Mcconnell

Ruth A. McConnell, 89, of Lake Wales went home to heaven on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Savannah Court.

She was born October 10, 1924 in Washington, DC to the late James H. and Margaret L. (Neff) Allerdice and has been a resident of Lake Wales for the last four years. Ruth was a retired Administrator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in suburban Maryland where she lived for decades. Her childhood was spent in Frostburg, MD before moving to the D.C area and then after retirement she lived in suburban Dallas and San Antonio, TX with family.

Ruth moved to Lake Wales to share these latter years with her sister and family. Once here she made many friends at her home church, First Baptist Church of Lake Wales. Ruth enjoyed her ladies Life Connection Group on Sunday mornings and the Home Bible Study she attended with the “sister chicks” was the highlight of her week. Ruth was a huge fan of Moody Radio and loved solid Bible teaching. Christ Jesus was her Lord who supplied her with strength and peace through the challenges of life and her various health struggles of recent years. She gave him glory in life and has departed to be with Him in death.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McConnell, in 1980. Bob was an ardent atheist who joyously came to faith in Christ just before dying due to the faithful witness of Ruth.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail June McConnell of Big Spring, TX; son Steven James McConnell of Schertz, TX; sisters Elizabeth Allerdice of AZ, Margaret Markley (Dick) of Lake Wales; brother Robert Allerdice of Milton, FL; 3 grandchildren, Joshua, David, and Matthew; 1 great granddaughter Madison.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Lake Wales with Ruth’s nephew Dr. Scott Markley, Pastor of FBC officiating.
