Ronald Goodwin Day

Ronald Goodwin Day of Lake Wales, FL passed away peacefully Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born October 20, 1932 in Freeport, IL to the late Elvin W. and Doris M. Day and was raised in Detroit, MI. Ron graduated from the Wayne State University in Electrical Engineering and was employed at Bendix Co. for ten years. His work involved the group responsible for the design of the digital electronics on the Apollo Space Experiment. Later he became manager at Test Equipment Distributers in Troy, MI. He was a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Haines City, FL.

He married Lola Dianne Mauch, with whom he has three children, Carolyn, Brian and Linda. He was widowed when the children were teenagers and subsequently met and married Joyce Troutman Cromwell. She had three teenage children as well, Jeffrey, Jonathan and Jeremy. Their marriage resulted in a blended family of six children, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They were married for 35 years.

After retirement, he volunteered for many, many years at AARP’s Tax Program, which offered their tax return filing services for low income wage earners and senior citizens. It was very rewarding work for him.

He enjoyed travelling with Joyce and working on genealogy, which took them to England on three occasions for research. But most of all, his passion was golf, he even had a HOLE IN ONE!!!

He will be truly missed by his family and many dear friends.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Haines City with Rev. Paul B. “Joe” Conner, II, Rev. Paul Bockelman and Deacon Izzy Bango-Sanchez officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mayo Clinic – Pulmonary Research (200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905).
