Ron T. Mackail, 73, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born on February 27, 1953, in Greenwich, Connecticut, Ron was raised in Stamford, where he developed the strong work ethic, leadership, and love of family that defined his life.

An Eagle Scout and graduate of American International College, Ron earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation and founded his own accounting firm in 1980 in Florida. Over a distinguished 46-year career, he built a reputation for integrity, professionalism, and unwavering dedication before enjoying a well-earned retirement.

In 1979, Ron married the love of his life, Karen. Together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and lifelong friendships.

Golf was one of Ron’s greatest passions. In 1988, he had the unique honor of caddying at the U.S. Open. He was a longtime member of Tequesta Country Club, where he formed many lasting friendships. In 1996, Ron and Karen began a new chapter, moving from Tequesta to Lake Wales after purchasing Oakwood Golf Club and later Lake Wales Country Club. Throughout his life, Ron also owned and operated several successful businesses, always embracing new opportunities with vision and determination.

Ron believed strongly in giving back to his community. He proudly served on the Tequesta Town Council for 15 years and was honored to serve as Mayor for eight of those years. His leadership, dedication, and commitment helped shape the community he loved.

Above all else, Ron’s greatest accomplishment and deepest joy was his family. Of all the titles he held throughout his life, the ones he treasured most were husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He was happiest on the golf course, gathered around the table with loved ones, or cheering on his children and grandchildren. His kindness, wisdom, generosity, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him and will be remembered always.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Jessie Mackail.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Karen Mackail; his daughter, Jennifer Bloechle and her husband, Christopher, of Ridgefield, Connecticut; his daughter, Lindsey Mackail of New York, New York; his sons, Brian Mackail and his wife, Colleen, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, and Ronnie Mackail Jr. and his wife, Shannan, of Lake Wales, Florida; his sister, Peggy DeCarlo and her husband, Al, of Stamford, Connecticut; and his beloved grandchildren, Madison, Mason, Carson, Evangelina, Seraphina, Ben, Charlie, and Owen, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his life.

Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, service, and hard work. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all whose lives he touched, but his example and the memories he created will live on for generations.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be announced at a later date.
