LAKE WALES -- Mr. Roger Lewis Horton of Lake Wales died of complications of lung disease Thursday (Sept. 21, 2006) at home. He was 81.

Born in Lake Wales on May 21, 1925, he was a lifelong resident. He was a retired serviceman for Florida Power Corp. He formerly worked at the family business, Hudson Automobile Business. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the landing force in the Philippines. He was a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church.

Mr. Horton is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Roger L. Horton Jr., Lexington, Ga.; daughters, Edith McDaniel, Deltona, Debbie Walden, Lake Wales; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Lake Wales, and 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Central Avenue Baptist Church, 113 W. Central Ave. Services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Lake Wales Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to James Ranch Training Center for the mentally retarded, 2902 N. Cork Road, Plant City, FL 33565, or Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823.
