Roberta (Bobby) L. Tervin of Lake Wales passed away on March 20, 2011 from lung cancer.
She was married to The Rev. Wallace Tervin and is survived by five sons and, three daughters-in-law; James Hurst of Clearwater, Timothy Hurst of Clearwater, David L. Tervin and wife Leslie of Lakeland, Wallace R. Tervin and wife Betsey of Bradenton, Roger W. Tervin and wife Kaprecia of Fort Smith, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Joanne Bense of Penfield, New York and a brother, James Carter of Ellenton, Florida.
She was born October 25, 1937 in Dubois, Pennsylvania to Nick and Catherine Carter. Her early years were spent in Rochester, New York and later moved with her family to Clarksburg, West Virginia, where she met and married James E Hurst. James passed away in 1977.
Wallace and Bobby were married in Bradenton, Florida in 1980 and lived there until moving in 1990 to Ft. Ogden, Florida where Wallace was the Pastor of the Ft. Ogden United Methodist Church. In 1995, Wallace retired and they moved to Lake Wales, Florida where they were living at the time of her passing.
For many years she was a nursing assistant in the delivery room of Rochester Memorial Hospital, Rochester, New York. In 1972, when she moved to Bradenton, Florida, she worked as the office manager for Dr Robert Teahan, a Cardiologist.
In 2004, Wallace came out of retirement and accepted an appointment as Pastor of the Indian Lake United Methodist Church and Bobby became a faithful, fulltime “first lady” of the church. For years she was a member of the “Sassy Singers” of Lake Wales and a member of the church choir.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Indian Lake United Methodist Church, 6910 Deland Avenue, Indian Lake Estates, Florida, on April 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobby’s name to The American Cancer Society (1920 South Florida Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33803) or Good Shepherd Hospice (105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823).
