Robert Edward Verrier, Sr., passed away peacefully at his residence on June 29, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101. Born on August 17, 1924, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Verrier lived a life marked by dedication, achievement, and service to his community and country.
Mr. Verrier’s commitment to public service was demonstrated through his distinguished career as a firefighter in Burlington, Massachusetts. His devotion to protecting others and his brave spirit made a lasting impact on those he worked with and served throughout his career.
Robert Verrier was also a proud veteran, having served in the United States Navy. Particularly notable was his status as the oldest living World War II veteran residing in Saddlebag Lake Resort, a testament to both his longevity and his dedication to his nation during a pivotal time in history.
A gifted athlete, Robert's passion for sports was evident in both his professional and personal pursuits. He played professional hockey in Canada and baseball in the United States. He toured Europe playing hockey for the Boston Olympics, achievements that reflect not only his formidable talent but also his commitment to excellence. His influence extended to the community through his roles as a high school hockey coach and referee, where he inspired young athletes and shared his love for the game.
Outside of his professional and athletic achievements, Robert contributed significantly to community life at Saddlebag Lake Resort. He was President of the Tennis Club, a member of the Men’s Club, and active in the Golf League.
Family was central to Mr. Verrier’s life. He is survived by his daughters, Janet Wilson, Denise Ryan and her husband John, and Joanne Arbing and her husband Gary; sister, Lillian Arseneaux; brother, Richard Verrier and his wife Geraldine Verrier; grandchildren, Erik, Amanda, Ami, Christopher, Mia, Rob, and Justin; as well as great-grandchildren Aiddin, Michael, Mark, John, Jake, Sage, Brady, and Eloise. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Pauline Verrier; son, Robert Verrier, Jr.; son-in-law, Ken Wilson; and sister, Lucille Chandler.
Robert Edward Verrier, Sr.’s remarkable life was characterized by service, excellence, and enduring connection to family and community. His contributions will leave a lasting legacy and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
