Robert B. “Bernie” Hightower, 87, of Deland, FL passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Florida Lutheran Nursing Home in Deland.

Born September 4, 1920 in Winter Haven; he came here moved to Waverly in 1946 following his military career. He was a retired packing house manager for Waverly Growers and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Deland; and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hightower. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara E. Hightower and husband, Gary, of Montgomery, AL; son, William E. “Bill” and wife, Lisa, Hightower of Deland, FL; sister, Robbie Jensen of Rockledge, FL; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales. Interment will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
