LAKE WALES — Mr. Robert E. “Pappy’’ Banes of Lake Wales died of heart failure Friday (June 30, 2006) at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 74.

Born Oct. 22, 1931, in Richmond, Va., Mr. Banes moved to Haines City from there in 1951. He moved to Lake Wales 18 years ago. He was a truck driver for Standard Sand and Silica. He was Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, LaRue Banes; daughters, Bobbie Grimes, Christine Mynatt and Teresa Foster, all of Lake Wales; son, Robert Eugene Banes Jr., Richmond; brothers, Jerry Edward Banes, South Hill, Va., Norman Riley Banes, Richmond, Stewart Lee Banes, Moseley, Va.; sister, Mary Jane Hamelet, South Hill; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be this afternoon from 3 to 5 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lake Wales Cemetery.
