Bereah -- The Rev. R.L. Polk of Bereah died following a heart attack Sunday (April 2, 2006) in Orlando. He was 65.

Born June 7, 1940, in Frostproof, he was a long-time resident. He was the minister of Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church. He was a funeral director with Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home for 16 years. He was a pastor at Florida Avenue Baptist Church, Lakeland, Antioch Baptist Church in Omega, Ga., First Baptist Church of South Bay, and Northside Baptist Church in Plant City.

The Rev. Polk is survived by his wife, Lorraine Polk; sons, Howard Polk, Bobby Polk and Glenn Polk, all of Avon Park; daughter, Rebecca Acosta, Avon Park; sisters, Minnie Johnson, Fort Meade, Mary Ann Cannon, Lake City, Juanita Waters, Bereah, and Ernestine Haire, Gainesville; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church Building Fund.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. at the Avon Lakes Baptist Church.
