Ralph M. Henry of Lake Wales, FL passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Winter Haven Hospital.
He was born on December 3, 1921 in Rochester Mills, PA to the late Levis and Mary Henry; he was a winter resident in Florida for many years before permanently moving from Taylor, MI in 1984.
He worked as a postmaster in PA, later moving to MI where he worked for the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton railroad for 17 years. He was also a mail carrier for a number of years and a pastor for the Church of God in Monroe, MI before retiring in 1984. He was a veteran and POW of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a long time resident of Genesis Pointe Christian Retirement Community where he could be seen riding his golf cart, socializing and giving a helping hand to those in need. He attended the South lake Wales Church of God where he was loved by all for his kind, caring and generous spirit. He was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and attended their Spring Training in Lakeland, FL.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Esther A. Henry; a son, John Henry of MI; and two brothers, Jim and Bob Henry. Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie Zehm of Winter Haven, FL; three grandchildren, Jan Acdan, Kanani Briggs and Jolee Hart; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the South Lake Wales Church of God with Rev. Larry Locke officiating.
