Preston Halstead Dalglish

December 28, 1917 — December 10, 2009

Preston Halstead Dalglish of Lake Wales, FL and Little Compton, RI (formerly Providence, RI) passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at his home in Mountain Lake, FL due to heart failure.

He was the husband of Patricia (Penfield) Dalglish. He was born on December 28, 1917 in Rome, NY, the eldest son of George Arthur and Antoinette Halstead Dalglish.

He spent his childhood in Rome, NY and later attended Tabor Academy, graduating in 1936. After attending the University of Virginia, he was called to service in 1941 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp being commissioned a Naval Aviator in June of 1942. During World War II he saw action in the Pacific, most notably at Guadalcanal where he was stationed at Henderson Field during the height of the action there. He eventually received the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Purple Heart medals. He was discharged with the rank of Major.

After the war, he settled in Providence, RI. For his entire working life he was a member of Mountain Lake Corporation, Sakonnet Golf Club and Member Emeritus of the United States Seniors Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Penfield) Dalglish; daughters, Lindsley Borsodi of NYC and Barbara Gilbert of Monsey, NY; sons, Preston Halstead Dalglish, Jr. of Kennebunk, ME and Robert Bruce Dalglish of Fort Washington, PA; step-sons, Peter Goodnow of Alexandria, VA and Philip Goodnow of Andover, NH; and 16 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Little Compton, RI at a place and time to be announced.

Donations may be sent to the Visiting Nurse Service of Southeastern, MA (Little Compton) and Mountain Lake Community Services of the Mountain Lake Corporation.
