Peter Stiles

LAKE WALES -- Peter Wellings Stiles, 86, passed away on Thursday, May 11,
2017 surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Sycamore, IL and started his military career early by
attending Missouri Military Academy. Pete graduated from Southern Florida
University (1952) and received a Master of Business Administration from
Syracuse New York University (1963). He served in the US Army for 24
years traveling the world, stationed in Korea, Japan, Germany and throughout
the United States. Retiring as Lt. Colonel from the Army, Pete continued his
working career at Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) in Chicago IL as a Director in
the federal programs sector. Upon retirement from BCBS, Pete settled in Lake
Wales FL spending his time as an avid golfer at Lake Wales Country Club. He
was a barbershop singer participating in many competitions and had a love of
music he shared with friends and family throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan of 40 years; sister Mary Kay "Auntie"
McDowell of Mississippi; sister-in-law Marcia Stiles; children Alan K (Phoebe),
Eric D (Stephanie), Debra, Sean (Kathy) and Daniel (Kim); 4 grandchildren Kyle,
Cole, Riley, and Shane. Peter was preceded in death by his parents Aaron K and
Rose; brother William D; brother-in-law Leslie "Mac" McDowell,
We are forever grateful to the Lakeland Regional Hospital Cardiac lCU and
Palliative Care Unit for all their support. Visitation will be held at Marion Nelson
Funeral Home on June 1, 2017 from 12pm-4pm. Peter will be laid to rest at
Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on June 2nd. Condolences may be sent to
