LAKELAND--Peter Joseph May, 74, of Lakeland died from complications of Alzheimer’s Wednesday, March 07, 2007 at Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage of Winter Haven.

Born July 15, 1932 in Rochester, NY; he lived in Lakeland from 1979 to 1981 and returned in 1997 from Kansas City, KS. He was a retired engineer for Sprint and a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Lakeland. He was a Niagara University graduate, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in math. Mr. May was a member of the VFW, Elk’s Lodge #1291 and the Lions Club all in Lakeland; Cosmopolitan International Club and a lifetime member of the IEEE.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Phyllis A. May of Lakeland; children; Julie K. Lewis-Stanley and Steven M. Garvie both of Lakeland; Lori Palma of Stanford, CT; Deborah May, Douglas May and Kenneth May all of Virginia; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Church of the Resurrection in Lakeland. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
