In Memory of Peter Dearing Brockmann, 77
Peter “Pete” Dearing Brockmann of Lake Wales passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Winter Haven Hospital.
Pete was born October 5, 1946 in Meadville, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Edna Brockmann.
He grew up in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and in his earliest, cherished memories, he fostered a love for music and nature. Beginning with a clarinet in his high school and community bands, he later transitioned to the saxophone, performing with the Admiral’s Jazz Band, for servicemen and dignitaries during his commission in the Navy.
Following his service in the Navy, Pete found his way to Florida, where he pursued his passions. He earned degrees in Music and Recreation, embodying a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.
For over three decades, Pete nurtured his love for nature through his work as a park ranger at Collier-Seminole State Park in the Everglades.
He retired to St. Cloud before eventually moving to Lake Wales in 2014.
He found joy and companionship as a garden guide at Bok Tower Gardens. There he found the love of his life, Susan Lee, whom he married in 2016.
Pete was an avid reader, particularly enjoying reading and studying about nature, aviation and the Civil War. He also enjoyed capturing the beauty of nature as an amateur photographer.
His travels, filled with wonder and discovery, took him to the natural landscapes of the Southwest United States and New Zealand.
Pete was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Brockmann. He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Susan Lee of Lake Wales; Susan’s children Christoper Lee of Lawrenceville, New Jersey and Angelina Mujica of Winter Park, Florida; grandchildren Julian and Mateo Mujica; and niece Eve Brockman.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024, at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.
