Paul Monroe Keen, Jr.

Paul Monroe Keen, Jr. was born in Lake Wales, Florida on November 10, 1937 to Lucilla Clark Keen and Paul Monroe Keen, Sr. He attended schools in Lake Wales, graduating from Lake Wales High School In 1956. He attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland where he sang in the Concert Choir. He graduated with a B.S. in Citrus in 1960. Paul was married to Kay Martin in 1959. They were married for 23 years. They have two sons, James Walter Keen (Georgia) of Bonifay, FL and David Martin Keen (Gail) of Frostproof, Fl. They have three grandsons, two step-granddaughters, and ten great-grandchildren. He has one sister, Mary Jo Witten (Gary) who lives in Aliceville, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucilla and Paul Keen, Sr., His sister & brother-in-law, Pat and Charles Brock, a 5 year old grandson and a 27 year old granddaughter. Paul worked for the Citrus Experiment Station for approximately 30 years, plus being a rancher at the same time. When he retired from the Experiment Station, he went into fulltime ranching in North Florida. His cattle were his family. They were as important to him as his boys were. He knew each and every one of them. Almost every conversation you had with him related to the cows in some way. He never retired from the cattle business as long as he was able to get around. Even his last conversations with his boys were about the cows. Paul enjoyed camping and fishing, which he would do If and when he had any spare time from the cattle. He also loved to read, especially anything dealing with history. He loved to read and then discuss what he had read with you for as long as you would listen. He was a Mason and Shriner. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home.
