Pat Pierson

October 5, 1926 — December 31, 2009

Patricia Hewes Pierson, “Pat”, died peacefully at her home in Mountain Lake on Thursday, December 31st, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Dr. Paul S. Pierson, “Pete”. Pat was born in 1926, the daughter of Thomas Hewes and Genevieve Chase, of Farmington, Connecticut. She was a graduate of Chatham Hall and Smith College. She is survived by four children, Peter, Ann, Chris and Tim, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. After raising their family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Essex, Connecticut, Pete and Pat moved to Mountain Lake in 1982. Throughout her life Pat was involved in volunteer work in her church and community. In Lake Wales she served on the Board of the Lake Wales Arts Council, supported the work of the Lake Wales Care Center, and was an active communicant of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. In their early years at Mountain Lake Pat and Pete served as the Social Hosts of the Colony House. Pat is remembered by her friends at Mountain Lake and in Lake Wales as one who graciously welcomed newcomers and reached out to those in need. Following her husband’s death in 2002 she hosted a grief support group in her home. During the final years of her life she was blessed by the devoted friendship and care of Pat, Charlotte, Joyce, Lee and numerous others who helped keep her home cheery and her spirits strong. A Memorial Service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lake Wales at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 4th. A private internment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers it is requested that any gifts be given to the Lake Wales Care Center or Good Shepherd Hospice of Lakeland, Florida.
