Oma Frances Gilmore of Lake Wales, Florida, died on May 5, 2011. She was 104 years old.
Born in Montgomery, WV on April 17, 1907, Mrs. Gilmore lived much of her life in and around the Charleston, WV area. In 1985, she moved from Dunbar, WV, to Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brenton Mearle Gilmore in Dunbar in the 1970's and by her son, Benjamin Powell Gilmore in Chicago in 1999.
Mrs. Gilmore had been a nurse and homemaker, and was a long time member of the Baptist faith. In the last several years, she had had a series of falls and illnesses and died quietly while in rehab for a broken hip. Because of her advanced age, she has very few living relatives.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Gilmore Bennett; her granddaughter, Chanda Erin Bennett; one great grandson, Aaron Bennett Kordek; and a niece, Juliana Mallett of California.
Oma requested that there be no funeral so no services are planned at this time. She will be buried beside her husband in the Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar, WV.
Anyone who might want to send flowers could, instead, donate to her favorite charity, the Union Mission in Charleston, WV.
