N.C. “Butch” Payne, Jr. of Frostproof passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at his residence.
He was born January 17, 1928 in Frostproof, Florida to the late Norman C. and Annie (Groff) Payne, Sr., and has been a lifelong resident of the area.
Norman was retired Owner/Operator for Payne’s Red & White Grocery Store for over 25 years, than received his master’s degree in education and was a teacher for the Department of Corrections for over 25 years. He was a member of the Frostproof Masonic Lodge; Frostproof Lion’s Club, Former Frostproof City Councilman, was a member of the Frist United Methodist Church of Frostproof and served in the National Guard.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Payne and his sister, Grace Milton
Survivors include his daughters, Beth Smith (Henry) of Frostproof, Brenda Payne of Frostproof; sons, Bucky Payne (Cindy) of Winter Haven, Bryan Payne of Sebring; 4 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 02, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Private interment will be held at the Silver Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 02, 2013 from 10:00 Am until service time.
