Norma Jean Mccall

August 26, 1924 — May 12, 2014

Norma Jean "Jeanne" McCall, 89, of Margate passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Born in Jasonville, Indiana on August 26, 1924, to the late Weldon and Eva Oeffler, Jeanne moved to Florida in 1945 where she married her "Sweetheart", the late Daniel Wallace McCall, in 1946. Together they raised their family in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, before moving to their home on Moody Lake in Frostproof, FL, in 1976.

Jeanne started her career as one of the youngest editors of a weekly newspaper in Indiana. Writing was her passion and she continued writing with a weekly column for the Historical Society in the Frostproof News. Jeanne and Dan started a project to have a "forgotten" Biscuit Lake Cemetery in Frostproof restored and listed as a local landmark. This project, along with other civic activities, lead to her being named "Woman of the Year" for Frostproof in 1988.

Jeanne was the loving mother of the late Robert Yandell McCall (Mimi) and Charles Roderick McCall (Jane) and is survived by her daughter, Joi-Phyle Hallem (Stan) of Margate. Her greatest joys were writing, her family and being Nana to her eight amazing grandchildren, their spouses, and her nine precious great-grandchildren.

She was smart, wise, loving, with a quiet strength and always a "lady". Whenever a visitor would leave she would teasingly say "Glad you got to see me." Now we can only say, "We are awfully glad we got to see her too!"

A "Celebration of Her Life" will be held at Biscuit Lake Cemetery, 1-399 Eddie Flood Road in Frostproof at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 24th, followed by visitation with family and friends at First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof, 101 N. Palm Avenue, Frostproof, FL 33843. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof or Rangers Lead the Way, http://www.leadthewayfund.org/donate/ would be appreciated.
