Newell Anderson (Andy) Smith died Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He was 80 years old. He was born in Lake Wales, FL on November 27, 1942, to parents Ruth and A.M. Smith of Frostproof, FL
Andy grew up in Frostproof surrounded by family and friends. He was a standout athlete and lettered in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He graduated from Frostproof High School in 1960, and then attended Stetson University in Deland, FL where he graduated in 1964.
Andy married his high school sweetheart, Carol Wardlaw Smith in 1964. He was commissioned into the Army as a First Lieutenant and was stationed in Germany shortly afterwards. He received his honorable discharge in 1973.
Andy remained a life-long resident of Frostproof and was an active citrus grower involved in several family citrus businesses. He was a faithful Christian and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Avon Park.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife Carol Wardlaw Smith (1996) and his second wife, Maribeth Fogle Smith (2018).
Survivors include sons, Wade and Stephen (Melodie); sister, Mary Catherine McDowell (Rodger); brother, Jimmy (Jenny B.); grandchildren, Kailey Palmer (Angus) and Jakob (Kyla); great grandson Knox Anderson Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Frostproof. Interment will follow at Silver Hill Cemetery.
