Nancy Jean Smith

Nancy J. Smith of Lake Wales passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 at her daughter's residence in Babson Park.

She was born November 23, 1936 in Painesville, OH to the late James and Emily (Farley) Carruthers; and came to Lake Wales from Painesville, OH in 1957. Nancy was the retired co-owner/operator, with her husband, of Smith's Men's Store in Lake Wales, and member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She was involved with various civic affairs through the years with her children's activities.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Gene "Catfish" Smith. Survivors include her daughters, Laura Motis (John) of Babson Park and Diane Hignight (Joe) of Lake Wales; sister, Barbara Totin (Andy) of Painesville, OH; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales with Rev. Fr. Thomas C. Seitz and Rev. Joanie Brawley officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church Memorial Fund (221 South 4th Street, Lake Wales, FL 33853).
