Nahima Albert

Nahima Albert, 101, a pioneer of Miami since 1930 passed away August 2, 2009.

She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio S. Albert, in 1984. Nahima and Antonio were both born in Homs, Syria and were owners and operators of Tony's Curb Market, 401 NW 79th St, and worked side by side from 1934 until the store was sold in 1981. She continued to live in the home she and Antonio built in 1940. Nahima was affectionately called "Miss Tony" by customers, neighbors and friends. She continued her love of "working in her yard" until she suffered a stroke July 5, 2009. She was compassionately cared for by the staff at the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged at Douglas Gardens where she was residing in the hospice unit until her death.

She is survived by her children, Lelia Gattas (George) of Memphis, TN, Della Zaher (Joe) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Mary Jane Stokesberry (John) of Miami Shores, FL, and Sam Albert (LuAnne) of Brooks, GA; grandchildren, Lee Gattas Proctor, George Gattas, Jr., Leslie Gattas Coleman, Tony Gattas, Andrea Zaher Cassell, Mark Zaher, Dr. Douglas Stokesberry, Valerie Stokesberry Lahteine, Major Michael Albert, and Dr. Anthony Albert. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, Grayson, Elliot, Lindsey, George III, Isabella, Carter, Mac, Samantha Nicole, Bradley, Brent, Cory, Jordan, Teal, Courtney, Samantha Lynn, Melissa, Brian, Hugh, Taylor, Rosie and Dina.

A private family service will be held in Lake Wales, FL followed by interment next to her husband, at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Greg Mason Funeral Home, Miami Shores, FL and Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales, FL.
