Michael Lee Day

Michael Lee Day, of Lake Wales, Florida, passed away on September 29, 2026, in Lake Wales. He was born on January 30, 1956, in Grafton, West Virginia.

Michael lived a life shaped by learning, service, independence, and deep personal conviction. He earned a bachelor’s degree and went on to become self-employed as an apartment-building owner later in life, building his livelihood through his own efforts. Earlier in life, he moved often with his parents, and after leaving the U.S. Navy he settled at his current residence in 1984.

His military service in the U.S. Navy remained an important part of who he was. Michael loved the military and was deeply patriotic. He also had a gift for sharing what mattered to him, especially through reading about and teaching military history. A voracious reader, he found joy in learning and in passing knowledge along to others.

Michael’s interests reflected both enthusiasm and curiosity. He was an avid gun collector, enjoyed bowling, and had a special love for sci-fi. Those who knew him also knew his selfless nature, a quality that stood alongside his strong sense of patriotism and his lifelong engagement with history, ideas, and the things he cared about most.

He is survived by his son, Brandon Day, and Brandon’s girlfriend, Amanda Knabe; and by his granddaughter, Layah Day. In the love of his family, Michael’s memory will continue to be carried forward and cherished.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Day, and his mother, Betty Lee.

Michael Lee Day will be remembered with respect and affection for his service, his intellect, his passions, and the selfless spirit he brought to his life and family.
