Mary Lee Welch, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at AdventHealth Lake Wales. She was born on December 25, 1927, in Edmond, West Virginia, where her journey began and her story began to unfold.
Mary was the heart of her family, dedicating her life to the role of homemaker with a steadfast commitment that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Her talents as a great cook brought joy and comfort to gatherings large and small, and her home was ever a welcoming place of warmth and laughter.
Guided by her Baptist faith, Mary exemplified devotion in both her spiritual life and in service to others as a devoted church lady. Those who attended services with her or witnessed her involvement in her church community remember her unwavering kindness, compassion, and deep sense of faith.
Her passion for gardening was evident in her beautiful rose garden, where she spent countless hours nurturing blossoms that reflected the beauty and care she brought into the lives of her loved ones. She found solace and fulfillment in tending to her garden and took pride in canning the bountiful harvests, sharing the fruits of her labor with friends and family alike. Mary also enjoyed reading, taking comfort and inspiration from books throughout her long and full life.
Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Mary Hawkins and Casey McCoy, and her devoted sons, Joel David Welch and James Welch. She leaves behind a cherished legacy through her 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, whose lives have been enriched by her love and guidance.
She is reunited in peace with her dear husband, Norman Welch, and her daughter, Lynn Estep, both of whom preceded her in death.
Though Mary’s presence will be deeply missed, her memory endures in the hearts of those she touched—her family, friends, and the many who were fortunate enough to know her. Her steadfast love, gentle spirit, and enduring faith remain a guiding light for all.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2026 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will be held at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Winter Haven.
