Mary Lloyd-Rees Craig passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Lake Wales Medical Center due to heart failure.

She was born on September 5, 1933 in Waltham, MA to the late Wilfred and Eirwen Lloyd-Rees. She spent most of her youth with her parents on a sugar plantation near Cienfuegos, Cuba. She attended and graduated with honors and distinctions from the St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, VA and then graduated from Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. She moved to the Lake Wales area in 1961 following her husband’s military service. She was a very active member in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales serving in many capacities, such as the Vestry, Alter Guild, Youth Group, and was a long time director of the Christmas Pageant. She was also very active in Girl Scouts serving on the National Board of Girl Scouts of America, was a past president of Heart of Florida Girl Scouts Council and was a local Girl Scout leader. She was past president of the Lake Wales Arts Council and past chairman of the Lake Wales Art Show. She served on the Board of Children’s Home Society, Board of Bishop Grey Inn, and was a former board member of Good Shepherd Hospice. She was a member of the Mardi Gras Krewe ‘Bacchus’. She enjoyed tennis, collecting art, traveling and spending time in her summer home in Hendersonville, NC. She was a proud member of the Democratic party and a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Roy A. Craig Jr.; daughters, Elizabeth Craig Parkinson (Andrew) of Winnetka, IL and Sarah Craig Stanley of Belleair; sons, John Alexander Craig (Susan) of Lake Wales and Michael Spencer Craig (Evi) of Babson Park; sister, Katharine Lloyd-Rees Miller of Charlottesville, VA; brother, David Lloyd-Rees of Falmouth Foreside, ME; and eleven grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales with the Rev. Father Thomas C. Seitz Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lake Wales Arts Council, 1099 State Road 60 East, Lake Wales, FL 33853 or the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, Camp Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 18066, Tampa, FL 33679.
