Mary A Burke, 76, passed away in Sebring, Saturday, December 12, 2015.
Born February 6, 1939 in Nevis, British West Indies to the late Ambozine Irvin Brookes, Mary moved to Lake Wales in 2004 from St. Thomas.She worked as a teacher for 23 years in St. Kitts before moving to St. Thomas where she went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Education in 2006 and Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in Counseling in 2009. She taught in St. Thomas for another 12 years before finally retiring to Florida in 2012. Mary Burke was also an ordained minister in the Apostolate faith based in Portland Oregon.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Burke.
She is survived by her children: Rosamund Mills, NY; Fleurtte Williams, St. Kitts; Paula Burke, St. Kitts; Jillian Burke, GA; Tristram Mills, St. Kitts; Charles Burke, St. Kitts; and Dwight Burke also of St. Kitts: sisters: Vanda Irvin, NY; Leontine Irvin, NY; Hyacinth Irvin, Boston, MA; Bobzie Irvin, Orlando, FL; Hilda Irvin; Baby J. Irvin, NY; brothers: George Irvin, Boston, MA; Frank Irvin, NY; Joseph Irvin, St. Kitts: and 36 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Ephram’s Light Assembly ( held at First United Methodist)Church in Lake Wales with the Rev. J. Frank Smith officiating.
