LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Martha J. Tibado of Lake Wales died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Thursday (March 23, 2006) at Altura Assisted Living Facility. She was 85.

Born in Hazleton, Pa., on
Nov. 12, 1920, she came to Lake Wales from Pennsylvania 60 years ago. She was director of nursing at Lake Wales Hospital for 20 years. She was an ensign in the Navy, having served in the Navy Nurse Corps in World War II. She was a member of the Naval Nurse Corps Association. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mrs. Tibado was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Arthur Tibado. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Martin, Lake Wales; son, Ron Tibado, Lake Wales; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lake Wales Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
