Martha Lee Lord of Frostproof passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Sebring.
She was born December 9, 1920 in Sparta, TN to the late James & Nora (Goldtrap) Denny; she moved to Frostproof at the age of five. Upon her graduation she became a nurse's assistant with Dr. Kenneth Dunham for several years having helped with many baby deliveries in the Frostproof area. She was an employee and branch manager (Sun Ray Branch) of Citizen's Bank of Frostproof for 21 years until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as a secretary for nine years when the present church plant was being built. She was also a member and treasurer of the Frostproof Woman's Club, Sunday school teacher of the Dorcas class and member of Circle Lydia for many years.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Wade Collins Lord; son, James Wade Lord; parents, James & Nora Denny; brother, James Austin Denny; and a sister, Mary Alice Ballentine. Survivors include her children, Sharon & Milton Giddens of Dunlap, TN, Bill & Ann Lord of Frostproof and Lynn & Ernest Respress of Frostproof; brother, Earl & Margie Denny of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Wendy & Bill Peterson of Colorado Springs, CO, Brenda & Jim Aitken of Conrad, MT, Missy Hadden of Frostproof, Kerry Giddens of Montrose, CO, Patton Respress of Frostproof, Brad & Terri Lord of Bradenton, Jennifer & Kyle Slagel of Auburndale and Delana & Michael Monk of Uvalde, TX; great-grandchildren, Brandon & Sarah Martinson, Brett Williams, Christopher Hadden, Austin Reed, Dylan Giddens, Summer Giddens, Meghan Hadden, Braden Lord, Marah Grace Hadden, Hailey Lord, Luke Slagel, Cole Monk & Noah Slagel; great-great-grandchildren, Lola Williams and Colton Martinson; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the funeral service at 3:00 pm Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Frostproof with Rev. Brian Smith and Dr. Edward L. Dinkins Jr officiating. Interment will follow at the Silver Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be sent to the First United Methodist Church or Hope Hospice.
